International Musician of the Year

One of our ambitions for the EYM Schools network is to establish the International Musician of the Year competition to allow talented young musicians to represent their institution, receive feedback from experienced musicians and share their performances with an international audience.

Partner institutions will be invited to nominate or select musicians to represent them. Initial entries may be submitted through a recorded performance, making it possible for students from different countries to participate without the cost of international travel.

Help Us Develop the Competition

We are looking for institutions, adjudicators and sponsors interested in helping us establish the competition. Support could include hosting a regional or international round, providing a performance venue, sponsoring an award or helping us reach talented musicians.

The competition is expected to include:

Instrumental and vocal performances.

Categories for different ages or stages.

Entries from schools, universities, conservatoires and institutions.

An international panel of professional musicians and educators.

Constructive feedback for participating musicians.

Certificates and recognition for finalists.

A featured performance opportunity for the winner.

The title of EYM International Musician of the Year.

Further awards or bursaries where sponsorship allows.

The competition will celebrate musical communication, creativity and potential alongside technical achievement. Full categories, eligibility requirements, dates and repertoire guidance will be published before applications open.

Host an EYM Event

Partner institutions will be encouraged to host European Youth Music activities within their own communities.

An EYM event could be:

Hosting an event will help your students develop their performance and organisational skills while introducing the wider school community to European Youth Music.

Where possible, the EYM team will support participating institutions with advice, promotional materials and links to musicians or alumni. The support available will depend on the type, location and timing of the event.

Before advertising an event using the European Youth Music name or logo, please contact us so that we can agree the details and provide the correct materials.

Help Your Students Discover EYM

School Partners will play an important role in helping talented young musicians find opportunities that may otherwise pass them by.

Your institution can support students by:

Share EYM opportunities in assemblies, newsletters and music lessons.

Display posters and application information.

Encourage students to follow EYM online.

Identify musicians who would benefit from our courses.

Support students with course or competition applications.

Invite former participants to talk about their experience.

Promote EYM opportunities to recent school alumni.

Help students prepare audition or competition recordings.

Encourage young musicians to organise fundraising activities.

Create an EYM student ambassador role within your institution.

Eligible students from partner institutions will receive priority consideration when places are allocated on selected courses. This will be particularly valuable where a course has limited places for a particular instrument or ensemble.

Our principal residential course, European Youth Music Week, is currently designed for musicians aged 18 to 28. Schools can therefore promote the opportunity to older pupils and recent alumni, while universities and conservatoires can share it directly with their current students.
